New work by Mark Yasenchack
Join us this Saturday for the latest River Gallery exhibit,
featuring ceramic vessels and encaustic collage by Mark Yasenchack.
Mark Yasenchack has been a ceramic artist for the last 20 years. This latest collection features larger and more intricately shaped vessels finished with his technique of washed on color that gives the work a stoney ancient look.
His encaustic collages start with photographs that have sections painted over or parts of other cut out photos pasted on. This collage is then encased in a transparent encaustic medium of bees wax and tree resin. This surface is stamped with letters and texture while warm. When cool oil paint is rubbed into the texture to create the illusion that the letters and patterns are floating over the images of the collage. Mark's prose and poem fragments play an important role in this narrative work creating intimate moments and gestures.
This exhibit runs through October 24, 2009

Mark has been exhibiting at River Gallery for the last 2 years and has been gallery manager for the last year. This collection of work will include encaustic collage and a new series of terra cotta boxes Mark describes and "...boxy and a little wonky, boxes with bad posture but a lot of character." The collage are larger multi-panelled pieces with more narrative, either in the form of prose poems, or obscured text.
Opening October 10, 4-7pm Is an exhibit of new work by Stephanie Craig, Todd Leech and Melissa Reagh.
Stephanie Craig was profiled in the Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artists issue in June. Her husband Todd Leech will have just returned from his debut at the prestigious American Craft Exposition in Evanston IL.

Bill Broulliard & Ron Meyers at River Gallery
Saturday July 25, 2009, 3-7 pm,
River Gallery Presents:
Bill Broulliard and Ron Meyers
Opening Saturday, July 25, 3-7pm
and runing through August 22, 2009.
Bill Brouillard, a professor in the Ceramics Department at the Cleveland Institute of Art, is the 2009 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cleveland Arts Prize. Bill has taught at CIA since 1980. Like Ron Meyers, humor is an important part in the imagery on his red earthenware vessels. Images on the large platters and bowls often read like comic strip cells telling a story or making a point.
Ron Meyers is a Professor emeritus at the University of Georgia and has taught courses and workshops throughout the country. His work is recognized and collected internationally. He works in red clay, creating functional vessels with an expressive vocabulary of images drawn onto the surface. Animals and human figures, their faces and expressions at once riveting and casual, are the great appeal of his work

Ceramics by Andrea LeBlond and Yumiko Goto
Paintings by Jeff Yost
All three have exhibitted at River Gallery, but this will be a collection of all new work.
Both LeBlond and Goto craft vessels that combine functionality with unique approaches to surface and texture.
LeBlond's multi-pieced sets of dishes and plates are dynamically textured and glazed.
Goto's sculptures are often soft and organically curved, the surfaces deep and living.
Yost's paintings are shadowy, haunting landscapes where the forms of trees, animals and man-made structures are only hinted at.
If you would like to be on our email list please email us at rivergalleryarts@yahoo.com.
Our next exhibit opens on March 28th and will feature
the paintings of Michael Greenwald &
glass vessels by Jon Cotterman.
Stay tuned...
