New work by Mark Yasenchack
Join us this Saturday for the latest River Gallery exhibit,
featuring ceramic vessels and encaustic collage by Mark Yasenchack.
Mark Yasenchack has been a ceramic artist for the last 20 years. This latest collection features larger and more intricately shaped vessels finished with his technique of washed on color that gives the work a stoney ancient look.
His encaustic collages start with photographs that have sections painted over or parts of other cut out photos pasted on. This collage is then encased in a transparent encaustic medium of bees wax and tree resin. This surface is stamped with letters and texture while warm. When cool oil paint is rubbed into the texture to create the illusion that the letters and patterns are floating over the images of the collage. Mark's prose and poem fragments play an important role in this narrative work creating intimate moments and gestures.
This exhibit runs through October 24, 2009
